Blurb:
The Handmaid’s Tale meets Blood Red Road in Glass Arrow, the story of Aya, who lives with a small group of women on the run from the men who hunt them, men who want to auction off breeding rights to the highest bidder.

In a world where females are scarce and are hunted, then bought and sold at market for their breeding rights, 15-year old Aya has learned how to hide. With a ragtag bunch of other women and girls, she has successfully avoided capture and eked out a nomadic but free existence in the mountains. But when Aya’s luck runs out and she’s caught by a group of businessmen on a hunting expedition, fighting to survive takes on a whole new meaning.

YOU COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MORE!

This book was of the most anticipated reads of 2015, it was all over my Goodreads news feed and the blurb was really intriguing. This issues I had with this book was that I just couldn’t get behind it.

The book had a really interesting and maybe too detailed approach to women being sold to the highest bidder. Simmons was able to create an entirely new and cruel world and paint it vividly. Aya was an interesting main character and the book allowed you to get to know her personally as Aya spends a lot of the book alone and imprisoned.

I struggled reading this book even with the concept of breeding women interesting albeit creepy. The first half of the book is really really slow as Aya just plans ways to escape with little interaction with anybody else. The action and adventure came towards the end of the book but by then it is long overdue so I wasn't able to really enjoy it. So finally we get to the good stuff and I was starting to be a little sucked in, thinking what else can happen.. and then we come to an abrupt end? This can’t be right, but yes it was. I was left a little disappointed as I expected a little bit more due to it being a standalone.

This wasn’t a very long review as it’s quite simple; you either love the book or it’s just not enough for you and I don’t want to bash it because it was a good read, it was just not for me. This will be different for different people but if you do love an amazing dystopian with a unique world then this book is definitely for you. I will re-read this in the future to give it another chance because the cover is just gorgeous.
