ARC Review: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer
Author: Laini Taylor
Series: Strange the Dreamer #1
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Release Date: March 28th 2017
Book Length: 432
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around— and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo's dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? and if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods. Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.

Welcome to Weep.

ARC Review: The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale
Author: Katherine Arden
Series: The Bear and the Nightingale #1
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Fairy Tales
Release Date: January 17th 2017
Book Length: 332
Publisher: Del Rey
At the edge of the Russian wilderness, winter lasts most of the year and the snowdrifts grow taller than houses. But Vasilisa doesn’t mind—she spends the winter nights huddled around the embers of a fire with her beloved siblings, listening to her nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, she loves the chilling story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon, who appears in the frigid night to claim unwary souls. Wise Russians fear him, her nurse says, and honor the spirits of house and yard and forest that protect their homes from evil.

After Vasilisa’s mother dies, her father goes to Moscow and brings home a new wife. Fiercely devout, city-bred, Vasilisa’s new stepmother forbids her family from honoring the household spirits. The family acquiesces, but Vasilisa is frightened, sensing that more hinges upon their rituals than anyone knows.

And indeed, crops begin to fail, evil creatures of the forest creep nearer, and misfortune stalks the village. All the while, Vasilisa’s stepmother grows ever harsher in her determination to groom her rebellious stepdaughter for either marriage or confinement in a convent.

As danger circles, Vasilisa must defy even the people she loves and call on dangerous gifts she has long concealed—this, in order to protect her family from a threat that seems to have stepped from her nurse’s most frightening tales.

Helllooooooo!

I can't believe how long it's been, I've completely abandoned my little book blog. I only intended to take a few weeks off but as always I got super lazy and just gave up on everything *sigh*. Anyway I am determined to get back to blogging again. I've obviously still been reading books - I'm not that far gone - but I really have missed blogging, whether it was ranting about bad books or fangirling about those swoony ones, gah I miss it all.

Anyway, I'm back for good and I'm going to try my best to manage my time better, not get too stressed out with how much I post each week and just enjoy getting back into the swing of things. Also what the hell has happened to blogger? I feel ancient, so many changes!!!

So here's a little catch up on all the amazing books I've been reading lately and that I highly recommend, review will be coming soon.
